Blade Runner’s Original Text Comes To Comics (updated!)

Boom! Studios may just have hit the sci-fi comic motherlode; they’re adapting Philip K. Dick‘s Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? into a groundbreaking new series mixing comic art with the original text, and more.
The series, appropriately titled Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? will include the full text of Dick’s 1968 novel – famously adapted into the movie Blade Runner – alongside brand new sequential illustrations for something more than just illustrated prose. Laura Leslie and Isa Dick Hackett, Dick’s daughters, are excited about the possibilities offered by the 24-part series:
We are thrilled that Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? is being adapted for this audience by such a talented team. We’ve been incredibly impressed with Boom!’s ability to create such a faithful interpretation of the original work without sacrificing their own original instincts and artistic sensibilities… Through this medium, readers will now have visual access to parts of the novel not explored in the film adaptation Blade Runner.
The first issue of the series doesn’t just offer the first part of the seminal story; Warren Ellis provides an afterword about Dick and the novel.
Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? #1 is released in June.

El texto original de Blade Runner está siendo llevado al comic
Boom! Studios acaba de revolucionar el mundo del comic de ciencia ficción anunciando su pronta adaptación de la novela original, Sueñan los Androides con Ovejas Eléctricas, de Philip K Dick, en una serie de comics que mezclarán el texto original con el arte del medio.
Las series, títuladas apropiadamente igual que la novela de Dick, incluíran el texto original del autor, de 1968, adaptado en la película Blade Runner, así como una profusa secuencia de ilustraciones para conseguir algo más que una simple prosa ilustrada. Laura Leslie e Isa Dick Hackett, hijas de Dick, se muestran muy ilusionadas con las posibilidades que ofrece la serie de 24 partes:
Estamos intrigadas con la adaptación de ¿Sueñan los Androides con Ovejas Eléctricas? para esta audiencia con semejante equipo. Nos ha impresionado increiblemente la habilidad de crear tal interpretación por parte de Boom! sobre el trabajo original sin sacrificar sus instintos originales y sensibilidades artísticas… A través de este medio, los lectores podrán tener acceso visual a partes de la novela que no han sido exploradas en la adaptación cinematográfica Blade Runner.

Promenades en France

This is one of the books that appears in the Deckard’s apartment. Not difficult to locate. You may try at ebay, or, better, Abebooks.com, a service that locates books around the world in any status. The book depicts France like a travel guide, plenty of pictures in black and white. In French, of course. Book dates from 1950′s.

Uno de los libros que aparece en el apartamento de Deckard. No es difícil de localizar. Puedes intentarlo en ebay, o mejor aún, en Abebooks.com, un servicio que localiza libros en cualquier parte del mundo y en cualquier estado. El libro muestra Francia como si de una guía de viaje se tratara, lleno de imágenes en blanco y negro. En francés por supuesto. El libro data de los 50.

Android Hunter heads

The Android Hunter articulated figure has a bunch of possibilities if you change the head (and clothes, of course). I’ve receved trhree heads that fit in this body. One is the same as original Deckard. Second, alternate version to Deckard head (and IMHO more accurate in expression). Third one is Roy Batty, not so accurate but nice in overall.
Cabezas de Android Hunter
La figura articulada llamada Android Hunter tiene muchas posibilidades, si le cambias la cabeza (y la ropa, claro). He recibido tres cabezas que pueden usarse en dicho cuerpo. Una de ellas es igual a la original, como Deckard. La segunda, una versión alternativa de Deckard, más fiel al personaje para mi gusto. La tercera es Roy Batty, no tan parecido quizás, pero bastante bien en general.

Philip K Dick wrote a bunch of letters. Fortunately, they are available in several volumes as “The Selected Letters of Philip K Dick….”. Each volume includes a period of time. Each one could be viewed as a different step in the life and career of this sci-fi writer.

Deckard bust

A large unpainted bust, Deckard accurate is here. I must paint it (but I don’t have any experience in painting such stuff!). Detail is very nice and very accurate to Harrison Ford face.

Un buen busto de Deckard sin pintar y muy acertado. Debo pintarlo, aunque no tengo ni idea de hacer estas cosas… Los detalles son muy precisos y el parecido con Harrison Ford es espectacular.

Complete origami set

This is a complete set of origami figures, like the ones Gaff made in the movie, made by Shinsuke Fujimura, Japan.
Includes an unicorn, a chicken and sticky man. The last one is not screen accurated, made with a plain match (the real one is wood match, I guess). Anyway, the chicken is very good.
Juego completo de papiroflexia
Completo juego de figuras origami, como las que Gaff hace en la película, realizadas por Shinsuke Fujimura, Japón.
Incluye un unicornio, una gallina y un hombre empalmado. Este último no es exacto al que sale en pantalla, hecho con un fósforo plano (el real es de madera cuadrado, si no me equivoco). De todas formas, la gallina es genial.

Blaster stands

Simply but effective. A solution to put your blaster treasure standing up and ready to show for the masses. Andy from Propsummit do it the trick. Some cuts here and there, some sanding… and the stand is ready to go. I put one for each blaster, and everyone works fine! Well, only my unmounted and unfinished resin blaster is hard to maintain at place. But, who cares?

Simple pero fectivo. Una solución para exponer las blasters y mostrarlas al público. Andy, de Propsummit, ha hecho el trabajo. Algunos cortes y un poco de lija… y soporte listo para su uso. He puesto uno en cada blaster y ¡funcionan perfectamente! Bueno, sólo en la blaster sin terminar hay algún problemilla pero es normal. Total… ¿qué más da?
