Not Tarantino one. Real pulp fiction magazines and books are in my focus these days. Philip K Dick, like many many other authors of Sci-fi novels and short stories, published a bunch of works in those cheap publications. From 50′s to 60′s (for now), I’d located several of them, in great titles like Galaxy, If, Wonder Stories, Amazing Stories, and many more.

These little books are old, very old, cheap paper with rusty and hard smell… Old paper, humidity, bacteries…. All of this will be removed, with luck, when I receive a little ozonizer!!! Will post the results… Meanwhile, I love to collect these little jewels of the past. Inside, aside of PKD stories, are plenty of other interesting authors too: Arthur C Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Robert Bloch, no name a few.

Recently received a very  curious edition of Solar Lottery by Philip K Dick. An “ancient” 1st edition in polski. Published in Varsovia, 1981. Part of the complete bibliography of this author.

One of the several books that appears in the Deckard’s apartment is “Five and ten”, by John K Winkler, and edited (this one) by Bantam. It depicts the life of FW Wolworth. It’s not difficult to locate a copy. Try Abebooks, for instance.

A huge volume with four of the most interesting works of PKD: The Man in the High Castle, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and Ubik. The difference in this edition is, it’s an advanced uncorrected proof. Well, could be interesting compare it with the final results.

La diferencia de este volumen es que se trata de una prueda de corrección avanzada. Sería interesante compararla con la edición final.

If you ever asked you where to find the magnification images showed in the microscope from the ADN row sequence, here you have the answer: Magnifications book, by David Scharf, a collection of beautiful images done with the scanning electron microscope. All images are in black and white, thus, the imagen in the movie has faux colour.

Si alguna vez te has preguntado dónde encontrar las imágenes ampliadas mostradas en el microscopio de la escena de la calle del ADN, aquí tienes la solución: el libro Magnifications, de David Scharf, una colección de bellas imágenes realizadas por el microscopio eletrónico. Todas las imágenes son en blanco y negro, así pues, las imágenes que aparecen en la película están coloreadas.

This is one of the books that appears in the Deckard’s apartment. Not difficult to locate. You may try at ebay, or, better, Abebooks.com, a service that locates books around the world in any status. The book depicts France like a travel guide, plenty of pictures in black and white. In French, of course. Book dates from 1950′s.

Puedes intentarlo en ebay, o mejor aún, en Abebooks.com, un servicio que localiza libros en cualquier parte del mundo y en cualquier estado. El libro muestra Francia como si de una guía de viaje se tratara, lleno de imágenes en blanco y negro. En francés por supuesto. El libro data de los 50.

Philip K Dick wrote a bunch of letters. Fortunately, they are available in several volumes as “The Selected Letters of Philip K Dick….”. Each volume includes a period of time. Each one could be viewed as a different step in the life and career of this sci-fi writer.

Alternate endings for several cult movies like Blade Runner and others. Talking about Blade Runner one, not more than 10 pages from the very end of the movie to… well, you must read it!

Not what I expected, but… an interesting idea. Nice hardcover edition, good paper and type.

Otro Final

Finales alternativos para varias películas de culto como Blade Runner y otras más. Hablando de Blade Runner, no más de 10 páginas que empiezan desde el mismo final de la película y llegan a… bien… ¡deberás leerlo tú mismo!

No es lo que yo esperaba, pero… es una idea interesante. Edición de lujo, con tapa dura, papel excelente, y buena tipografía.
