Last week I’ve received a Lightoiler lamp like the one that appears in the movie. Color is terrible white, but who cares… I could paint it. In fact, in the movie only appears flashy in one sequence, when Deckard and Rachel are back from Leon’s retirement.

What we have to offer for your viewing pleasure here is this rare & stunning late 1940′s Art Deco Era space age adjustable desk lamp most likely designed by Kurt Versen for Lightolier! A very early & scarce design that reminds us of the aliens from War of The Worlds! The shade looks almost exactly like the heads of the flying saucers from the original movie. We thought this lamp was early Eames Era but after researching we found the only lamps by Lightolier with this style neck & adjustable joint were designed by Kurt Versen in the early to late 1940′s. An absolutely fabulous early Mid-Century Modern piece of lighting & just awesome when it is lit up! The lamp bears the Lightolier mark in several places all of them we have photoed for you. The first is on the metal top of the shade at the back, the second is on the adjusting joint, the third is on the on-off switch inside the shade & the fourth is the old Lightolier raised mark on the bottom of the base. The bottom of the base also has the model numbers in raised lettering “C5299″ 3L. It is a two way lamp switch but there is only a one way bulb in right now. It works great as it is & casts quite a bit of light out of the sculptural shade. The lamp is in great overall condition for its age with several areas of wear & one damaged spot. The top is white painted enamel which appears to be the original finish & has some scuffs & scratches to it. The shade is milk white Lucite / acrylic. The metal neck has a beautiful dark patina that could be bronze but is most likely brass. There is a heat melted spot on towards the front of the shade which we have shown in out pictures but it is not discolored or scorched. The base has a gold painted finish which also appears to be original with quite a bit of wear to the paint. The lamps stands 19″ tall, the shade measures 15″ in diameter by 6″ wide at the front & tapers down to 5″ wide at the back. The base measures 8″ wide & sits 7/8″ high at the back & tapers down to 1/2″ high at the front.

La última semana recibí esta lámpara Lightoiler igual a la que aparece en la película. El color es un blanco terrorífico, pero no importa… puedo pintarla. De hecho, en la película apenas aparece brevemente en una secuencia, cuando Deckard y Rachael vuelven de su encuentro con Leon y posterior retiro.
La descripción de la subasta estaba llena de detalles:
Lo que ofrecemos aquí es una lámpara Lightoiler, posiblemente diseñada por Kurt Versen. Esta lámpara de escritorio tiene un diseño extraño y espectacular, fechado con probabilidad en los años 40 en la era del Art Deco. Diseño atrevido y nada frecuente que nos recuerda a las naves extraterrestres de La Guerra de los Mundos. La pantalla se parece mucho a las naves invasoras. Pensamos que esta lámpara pertenecer a la época de Eames, pero tras investigar encontramos que este estilo sólo fue fabricado por Lightoiler y diseñado por Kurt Versen a finales de los años 40. Es una extraordinario pieza de mitad de siglo y mucho más atractiva cuando está encendida. La lámpara tiene la marca Lightoiler grabada en varios lugares, todos ellos fotografiados. El primero en la parte trasera metálica de la pantalla, la segunda en la articulación de ajuste, la tercera en el interruptor on-off en el interior de la pantalla y el cuarto es la marca Lightoiler en la parte inferior de la peana. En este lugar también se encuentra el modelo, “C5299″ 3 L. El interruptor soporta dos posiciones, aunque ahora sólo se encuentra una sola bombilla. La lámpara tiene varias manchas y algunos pequeños daños pero en general está muy bien teniendo en cuenta su edad. La parte superior está pintada de esmalte blanco, al parecer el color original y tiene algunas marcas y rozaduras. La pantalla es de Lucite blanco / acrílico. El cuello de metal tiene una patina oscura que podría ser bronce, pero es más probable que sea latón. Hay un punto derretido en la parte frontal de la pantalla, producido por el calor, pero no está decolorada o quemada. La base tiene un acabado de patina dorada que también parece ser la original, con un poco de desgaste de la pintura. La lámpara mide 47,5 cm de alto, la pantalla 37,5 cm de diámetro por 15 cm en el frontal. La base mide 20 cm de diámetro.
