A new channel was opened last week on Vimeo. The MyBladeRunner channel will contains some videos related with Blade Runner, of course, and so on.

Starting with three videos (sorry, only in Spanish for now). Two of them where featured in the last WeekendTrek Con of Barcelona, 2011:

First, “Genealogía de Blade Runner, del robot al superhumano“, or in English, “Blade Runner genealogy, from robots to superhuman”. A journey thru all the movies from Metropolis to nowadays, explaining the evolution of robots, androids, cyborgs, IA’s, virtual reality and superhuman powers.

Second, “Philip K Dick en el cine“, or “Philip K Dick at movies”. The most representative movie adaptations from novels and short stories of Philip K Dick: Blade Runner, Total Recall, Screamers, Minority Report, Barjo, Next, Paycheck and so on.

Third, not featured due technical issues, was “The Lost Files“, a journey thru my own private collection explaining the world of Blade Runner props. It’s a premiere of my book project devoted to BR props. The longest of the three videos, so be aware!

Long time since my last post here. Now, a premiere, or better, a pre-post… I have so much work at home, classifying, cleaning and setting up my room space to achieve a clear goal. Have all my collection in order and accesible… No more boxes, no more piles of books, magazines and so on in a chaotic environment. The work is not finished yet, but light is near to come. Philip K Dick is one of the most important sections in my collection about Blade Runner. In fact, I think is the largest book collection I have about one topic. More than… 500 books? perhaps more, I cannot be sure. From early publications in pulp magazines until new releases, thru all kind of editions, languages and related works. The shelves devoted to PKD are in a way a sickness of collector… yeah, I know it. But, what? I’m happy with it!

In the next weeks I’ll redo my pictures of any book and magazine related to Philip K Dick. I wanna do it for several reasons. First, list all of them with complete information: title, edition, publisher, year, origin and so on, you know… Then, take pictures of all covers and backs, since some editions are worth the value of such task. Hardcover editions, with jacket editions, rare editions (custom ones, fanzines, etc), and other rarities. More than 15 years collecting -not so long time for a serious collection, I guess- had bring me several little jewels I’m happy to share. In fact, I’ll start a new sub-site in this page only for PKD. A kind of public library to share all the information. A hard work waits, I know, but is fun to do it.

And, what about Blade Runner? What about the book project? Well, Blade Runner is ever in my mind, but each time I take a look for new items to add, is harder and harder to find new ones… I’m aware of news, of course, but… sometimes, the most, these items are not affordable (too expensives), or vendor don’t agree to ship internationally, or whatever… So my collection grows slowly nowadays. No matter. A collection is a kind of lifeform, ever growing, despite what happens around.

The book. The book is in standy until I have all the items and information classified and well ordered. It’s a must for doing a good job and avoiding time-consuming useless task like finding a particular info in the miriad books, magazines, reports and digital files I have for now. So.. yes, the book is still in progress. And will be available “when done”.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? comic edition

At last, the #1 issue of this comic serie has arrived. Three different covers, the 4th was not available (yet) at Fordibben Planet Comics. No matter. This edition is awesome. Paper quality, size, print, colors… a nice graphic adaptation of the Dick’s novel. Finally, all the author ideas are not adapted, translated to paper step by step. A great news for fans!

Pulp Fiction

Not Tarantino one. Real pulp fiction magazines and books are in my focus these days. Philip K Dick, like many many other authors of Sci-fi novels and short stories, published a bunch of works in those cheap publications. From 50′s to 60′s (for now), I’d located several of them, in great titles like Galaxy, If, Wonder Stories, Amazing Stories, and many more.

These little books are old, very old, cheap paper with rusty and hard smell… Old paper, humidity, bacteries…. All of this will be removed, with luck, when I receive a little ozonizer!!! Will post the results… Meanwhile, I love to collect these little jewels of the past. Inside, aside of PKD stories, are plenty of other interesting authors too: Arthur C Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Robert Bloch, no name a few.

Recently received a very curious edition of Solar Lottery by Philip K Dick. An “ancient” 1st edition in polski. Published in Varsovia, 1981. Part of the complete bibliography of this author.

Selected Letters, all together, at last

Yeah, just arrived the fourth volume of PKD Selected Letters. A very rare and difficult one. It contains the first period, from 1938 to 1971. Now, the entire collection is in my hands. One year, more or less, to achieve this goal, mmmm…. but that’s the spirit of collectors, I think.

Las cartas de Dick, todas juntas, for fin

Hoy mismo he recibido el cuarto volumen de las Cartas Selectas de PKD. El tomo más difícil de localizar. Contiene el primer periodo, desde 1938 a 1971. Ahora, la colección completa ya está en mis manos. Un año, más o menos, para conseguirlo, mmmmmm….. pero ese es el espíritu del coleccionista, creo yo.

A huge volume with four of the most interesting works of PKD: The Man in the High Castle, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and Ubik. The difference in this edition is, it’s an advanced uncorrected proof. Well, could be interesting compare it with the final results.

Un buen volumen con cuatro de los trabajos más interesantes de PKD: The Man in the High Castle, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? y Ubik. Boom! Studios may just have hit the sci-fi comic motherlode; they’re adapting Philip K. Dick‘s Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? into a groundbreaking new series mixing comic art with the original text, and more.

The series, appropriately titled Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? will include the full text of Dick’s 1968 novel – famously adapted into the movie Blade Runner – alongside brand new sequential illustrations for something more than just illustrated prose. Laura Leslie and Isa Dick Hackett, Dick’s daughters, are excited about the possibilities offered by the 24-part series:

We are thrilled that Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? is being adapted for this audience by such a talented team. We’ve been incredibly impressed with Boom!’s ability to create such a faithful interpretation of the original work without sacrificing their own original instincts and artistic sensibilities… Through this medium, readers will now have visual access to parts of the novel not explored in the film adaptation Blade Runner.

Philip K Dick wrote a bunch of letters. Fortunately, they are available in several volumes as “The Selected Letters of Philip K Dick….”. Each volume includes a period of time. Each one could be viewed as a different step in the life and career of this sci-fi writer.
